Columbus, the capital of the state of Ohio, has known a really fast development due to the unique contribution of the government of this state and the Ohio State University. Since this university is involved in numerous research projects of a very large scale, there are many scientists who visit this town periodically. These, along with the leisure travelers, prefer to book a room in one of the plentiful Columbus luxury hotels, in order to benefit from all the amenities a visitor could ever dream of. Keep in mind, though, that not everything in this city is about research and scientific projects. As a leisure traveler, you can also have a great time here, as there are plenty of points of interest that will fire your imagination for days.
The city is divided into five districts: Downtown, University Area, Northwest, Northeast and South Columbus. Getting into the city is possible by car, bus and plane. Port Columbus International Airport, where both domestic and international flights are operated by various airline companies, connects this metropolis to the rest of the world. You can get from the airport to Downtown by taxi or by bus. In addition, you also have the possibility to rent a car at the airport. There are Greyhound and Megabus stations in this city. The latter connects Columbus to Chicago, Cincinnati and Indianapolis.
Once you step out of the Columbus luxury hotels, you have to decide how you will explore the city. If you come here by car, you can also use it to get around or, as an alternative, you can rent one. The main disadvantage is that during rush hours, the traffic is rather hectic. This is why you are highly recommended to avoid driving while the locals are coming from or going to work. Taking the bus in order to explore the city may be more affordable. Express bus and normal bus rides are not priced equally, but transfers are free. Some areas of the city are very pedestrian-friendly, so you can also take walking into consideration when exploring the city.
The festivals that take place in this city bring a lot of tourists who often decide to stay in one of the Columbus luxury hotels. There are so many events that it is very likely you'll attend one, no matter when you decide to visit this city. For example, the All American Quarter Horse Congress takes place each October. The Columbus Arts Festival is one of the major events to be organized in this town. The locals combine entertainment, arts, music, crafts and food in a manner that will impress all of the tourists. Columbus Jazz and Rib Fest gathers around 700,000 people each July. Jazz lovers are highly recommended to attend this festival. The German Village Oktoberfest, despite its name, is organized in September. More than 175 events are hosted each year at the Ohio Expo Center, so it is basically impossible to come to Columbus and not see anything of interest.
Sports lovers will also have the chance to spend their vacation in great style. There are four major teams in this city, namely Columbus Blue Jackets, which is a NHL team, Columbus Clippers, an MLB AAA baseball team, the Ohio State University NCAA College and Columbus Crew, which is in the Major League for Soccer.
Shoppers are not neglected, either. They can choose between several indoor markets, craft shops and clothing boutiques. In addition, they can visit Short North, a neighborhood of Columbus that abounds in galleries, cafes and restaurants. The grocery stores that are located in this city have very interesting offers too, so it may be worth visiting one of these, as well.
